Three AIB MK Lightning Players Earn GB U20s Selection for World Championships
Huge congratualtions to three AIB MK Ligthning players who have been called up for GB U20 World Championships duty this December! Well done to Zaine McKenzie and Mack Stewart who make the squad and Milique Martelly who is on the reserve list. The travelling team will leave for Lithuania for a team camp on Tuesday 6th December immediately prior to the World Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania returning to the UK on Sunday 18h December. AIB MK Lightning Supports Remembrance Day 2022
Commemoration of Remembrance Day has always been a huge part of the Milton Keynes Lightning season, and this year is no exception. As a club, we are committed supporters of the Royal British Legion through the amazing fundraising efforts of the Milton Keynes Lightning Supporters Club. This year, we will be commemorating Remembrance Day at our fixture on Saturday 12th November against Telford Tigers. During that fixture, we will play in our commemorative jersey, and will welcome representatives of the Royal British Legion to join us for a presentation ceremony. Elite League Prospect Mack Stewart joins AIB MKL on a two way contract
Rounding out the AIB MK Lightning roster for 2022/23 is an exciting Elite League prospect who joins us on a 2 way contract with Belfast Giants. He was our top scorer and Supporters Club player of the year in 2021/22. He’s also a fantastic guy to have around the club, who has been instrumental this summer in getting everything ready for the new season. He’s celebrating his testimonial on August 20th, and we’re celebrating that Leigh Jamieson is back in our squad for the 2022/23 season. The 2019/20 Milton Keynes Lightning Defenceman of the Year brings over 500 league appearances for MKL as part of a career which also includes Elite experience and international honours at World Championships and Olympic qualifier levels. Excitement alert! Our very own Disco, Liam Stewart, has committed to MKL for the 2022/23 season, his fourth season! Well known as one of the most exciting players in the NIHL National, Liam picked up 41 points in 45 games for Lightning in the 2021/22 season is always a massive part of our energy and passion on the ice. Our second overseas player for 2022/23 is a Latvian winger who was recommended to us by former MK Lightning player Georgs Golovkovs. Please welcome Deivids Sarkanis to the Lightning lineup for 2022/23! 27 year old Deivids was born in Riga, and has spent much of his development career in the Latvian leagues, including a number of seasons in the MHL, the feeder league to the prestigious KHL competition. He started strongly for us last year and has a great attitude. Having appeared 24 times for AIB MKL last year, he went to the Bees for some more development and picked up 13 points in 20 games. Now he’s back, he’s raring to go, and we are chuffed that’s he’s once again in the AIB MKL locker room.
